Tap, Screen, Intervene: Reimagining Alcohol Care Digitally

About the client
The Problem
Screening and Brief Intervention (SBI) is a validated method for reducing harmful alcohol use. Traditional delivery relies heavily on healthcare professionals. This makes it costly and challenging to scale in high-demand clinical settings.
To address this, the AB InBev Foundation needed to shift to a digital-first approach.

The Solution
Light-it team built for AB InBev Foundation an electronic SBI (e-Screening and Brief Intervention). This is an all-in-one product that connects patients with providers, designed to be fast, scalable, and accessible.
It features a 2–3 minute digital alcohol use assessment followed by an automated brief intervention for users identified as at-risk. The tool offers the possibility of taking electronic SBIs and keeping a record history of their previous evaluations. Telehealth functionality is included to serve as the appointments tool.
The Process
We started with an agile discovery phase, using user interviews and competitive research to identify adoption challenges in the healthcare space. Insights guided the product roadmap and aligned it with ABIF’s strategy.
Through iterative UATs (User Acceptance Testing) and feedback loops, we refined core features and validated usability.
User testing of high-fidelity prototypes validated an intuitive and scalable solution that aligns with clinical workflows.
Our team brought the product to life, while keeping the AB InBev Foundation involved at every stage. We launched an MVP and refined it through continuous testing and iteration.

A private and inclusive solution
The platform enables the Foundation to break down adoption barriers and expand the impact of proven alcohol harm reduction strategies, faster.
This innovation supports Smart Drinking initiative, which targets a 10% global reduction in harmful alcohol consumption.
Trusted resources at the palm of your hand
After assessing risk, the app enables users to download their responses, access tailored resources, and and schedule consultations. If needed, the app also suggests nearby health centers to help maximize the user's outcomes.

Simplifying patient tracking
Our team also developed a provider platform that consolidates patient information and consultations. It provides a clear way to log and track any changes throughout treatment or risk level, ensuring everyone stays aligned.

where you are
Our team travelled to South Africa, Colombia and Mexico to test where the users were. This guaranteed the product adjusted perfectly to their needs and requirements.
Why it matters
What started as a global health challenge became a chance to build something that truly supports people. The AB InBev Foundation set out to reduce harmful alcohol use by working directly with communities, and we helped bring that vision to life through tech. They focus on real-world solutions shaped by local knowledge, evidence, and collaboration. With the help of data and technology, the foundation supports early intervention, better decision-making, and programs that reflect the needs of each place they serve.
